Situation

We know that a family is unit in which every member is individual , so to say, an individually free and everybody helps to achieve the fulfillment of each individual, support each other and share affection to make everybody feel his own necessity.

TV journalists are going to make a program " An Ideal Family". They ask people about their ideas of an ideal family.

Procedure

Step1

One of the groups has to prepare the role of the interviewer and write down the . questions interviewer could ask the members of the family. All the other groups represent members of the family. They should allocate the different roles within the group and talk about the personalities , ways of behavior, and ideas of the people of in their family.

Step 2

Each family is interviewed by a different interviewer in turn in front of the class. At the beginning of the role play each member of the family introduces either himself or another family member.

Step3

Since a lot of the students' values and ideals regarding families will have become obvious , they should be discussed afterwards.

Step 4

Each member of the "family" writes their ideas of an "ideal family".

Everybody in your family is glad to see you at home again. It is a pity that you are always short of time. You are sure that love conquers all.

Mrs Smith. You are a housewife. You think that your husband doesn't love you. When you sit in the living room your husband always watches TV, and never looks at you. When you eat breakfast together he always reads newspapers and never talks to you. When you go to parties he always sits with his friends and rarely dances with you. He is lazy. He never helps you with the housework. He never plays with the kids. Your son is naughty. They make you crazy .You do not think that it is a happy family life.

Tony .You are a student of the fifth grade . Your mother is a very attractive woman. She does everything about the house. You think she is the busiest person in your family. As a matter of fact you would like to help her , but unfortunately you do not like washing the dishes. Cooking is not for you. How could you help your mother? To make your bed? But it is really boring. To feed and walk the dog? Why you again?

Role play

Learning is more effective if learners are actively involved in the process of learning. My choice of the role plays is guided by the intention to achieve effective language situations rather then extremely original topics. Role plays make use of two types of materials: role cards and cue cards . The worksheet for my plan contains role cards (see the worksheet) which tell the players what the person whose role they are taking is like. Role plays generally improve students' oral performance. They are quite demanding foreign language situations in that players have to use the foreign language correctly and adequately both in terms of foreign language itself and the particular role that is acted out. Even very advanced learners of English are rarely able to speak consciously in a particular style or register, which may be necessary for a role. For these students the study of text, or better video tapes of level of formality , can be a valuable training in this skill prior to role play.

My role as a teacher : to be motivator, helper, adviser; watch and see that the groups are working effectively together, that the tasks are being shared out equally, that the class time is being used effectively.
