Children are sitting in two teams and in every team they are in pairs, opposite each other. The teacher is in the middle , in front of the pupils, having an envelope in the hands.

Teacher: Dear children!

I’m very glad to see you today and to present an interesting and important task (to help one person). It is a letter from an alien.

He came to our planet not long ago but can’t understand if he’s an animal or a man. You know a lot about animals and, certainly, people.

Would you like to help this alien?

Pupils: Yes! Yes! Show us the photo!

Teacher: Oh, sorry, I can’t show it ,because this alien is very shy . But I may show it to one pupil from every team. They’ll have a look and tell you about the alien’s appearance. You also may ask questions .Take the papers and be ready to draw this person with your coloured pencils.

Then we’ll define the best drawing.

Two pupils describe the person in turn. Example: “ He’s got a big and green body.

He has not got shoulders. His eyes are round and red….”Sometimes pupils also ask questions. When the pictures are ready, the teacher shows the real photo of the alien . It’s Muzzy. Pupils choose one as the best , comparing the pictures. Then they watch the video-episode about Muzzy.

Teacher: We should write the letter to Muzzy but first let’s speak about animals and people. On the blackboard there are a lot of pictures, but some animals are on the right and some are on the left .Why?

Pupils: On the right are wild animals and on the left are domestic ones.

The teacher writes “Wild nature” and “At the Zoo” on the blackboard, because pupils have named these places where we can meet wild animals. Pupils come to the blackboard in turn and write different animals. A right written word is a point for this team. Then they count all the points.

Teacher: I have one photo . Will you guess what animal it is . Ask me questions and I’ll answer only “Yes” or “No”. I’ll also give you these paper figures for your questions(red, green or yellow).Red is 5points, green is 4 points and yellow is 3 points.

Pupils ask questions like: “Is it a wild animal? Is it brown? Has it got a bushy tail? Are it’s eyes green?…..” Then the pupil, guessed the animal, does the same with another picture. After the work pupils count the points. The last picture is a Polar bear.

Teacher: Very good work, pupils! We may watch a video-episode about Polar bears. Try to understand as much as possible and to remember it, because then you get cards, where it is important to tick up only the right sentences.

POLAR BEARS

Read aloud only the true sentences.

  1. Polar bears live in the Arctic.
  2. The Arctic is very cold.
  3. The polar bear’s fur is brown.
  4. Polar bears eat fish.
  5. Polar bears are good swimmers.
  6. Polar bears cover their noses with snow.
  7. Every polar bear has a name.
  8. A polar bear usually has ten little bears.
  9. Arctic foxes can eat polar bears.
  10. People don’t like to watch polar bears.

Teacher: We speak about animals . I think they meet people everywhere. Even very far from towns ,in the Arctic there are scientists. And what people work at the Zoo? Have you ever been to the Zoo?

Pupils give their opinions about scientists, and say what people can be zookeepers.

Then every team gets a photo and pupils describe the man / woman using the descriptive vocabulary (face and parts of the body). Every right sentence is a point for this team.

Teacher: Now we’ll watch a video-episode about the biggest Zoo in the world.

London Zoo. Here are the cards. Your task is to count the animals and write the numbers.

(A pause. Pupils sing the song “Head and Shoulders” to the music and show what they sing about.)

Teacher: Let’s speak about domestic animals now . Where do they live?

Pupils: On a farm , at home…

The teacher writes “On a farm” and “At home” on the blackboard and asks pupils to write the domestic animals there. Every pupil may bring a point to the team for one correctly written word.

Teacher: I propose you to watch a video – episode about Old McDonald’s farm.

If you know the song , sing with Nina. Try to remember the animals.

Pupils watch and sing the song “Old McDonald had a farm…” Then the teacher gives the exercise- card “On a farm” and everybody names the animals in the picture . After that pupils work in pairs with the task in the card.

Teacher: Good work! I think that you may speak a lot about your pets. Will you tell your partner about them .

Pupils talk about pets and favourite animals. Then they decide to write the letter to Muzzy. They think he is an animal and prove their opinions. The teacher counts all the points and gives a five to the pupils who got more points than others.
