Место в учебном процессе: урок систематизации и обобщения знаний по теме "Health and Body Care", 5 класс, УМК Верещагина Н.Н., Афанасьева О.В. Английский язык: учебник для V класса школ с углубленным изучением англ. языка, лицеев, гимназий, колледжей. - М.: Просвещение, 2007.

Цель урока: систематизировать и обобщить знания учащихся по теме "Health and Body Care".

Задачи урока:

Образовательные:

  • обобщение лексического материала по теме "Health",
  • обобщение грамматического материала (модальный глагол "should"),
  • развитие навыков говорения, аудирования (просмотр видео), чтения и письма по теме.

Развивающие:

  • развитие коммуникативных навыков по теме "Health and Body Care",
  • развитие творческих способностей учащихся,
  • развитие памяти, внимания и мышления,
  • развитие умения обобщать и делать выводы.

Воспитательные:

  • воспитание здоровых привычек и культуры здорового образа жизни,
  • воспитание умения работать в сотрудничестве.

Форма урока: урок-соревнование.

Оборудование: компьютер, мультимедийный проектор, аудиозапись, магнитофон, раздаточный материал (карточки с кроссвордом, карточки "Health Code", "A Magic Flower"), докторский халат и принадлежности, призы.

PROCEDURE

1. Warming up. Brainstorming

T. Today our lesson is devoted to a very important problem. As you know some people are healthy, some people are unhealthy. Health is the most precious things in people's life. We can't buy health, but we can do a lot to keep it. In order to be healthy we should follow some special rules. The series of pictures on the screen will help you to guess what we are going to speak about.

Now look at all these pictures at once. What do they represent? Can you guess what we are going to speak about?

P. A Healthy Way of Life (Слайд 2)

T. Right you are. So today we are going to speak about our health, about what we should do to be healthy and about doctors, because they help us to be healthy.

2. Phonetic Practice

T. But at first we should revise some words on our topic.

T. Look at the screen, please. I will read these words and then you will repeat them altogether. (Слайд 3)

Health Blood
Healthy A patient
Pressure Temperature
A medicine A diet
Pulse To cough

There are some words on the blackboard and your task is to find the pair for each word to make the right word combinations. Who wants to come up to the blackboard to do this task?

Blood To take

ache to a diet

T. (Слайд 4) I offer you to have a lesson in a form of a competition. So you should divide into two teams. You will take a card with one of the numbers: number one or number two.

T. You are the first team and you are the second team. Give your teams a name connected with the theme of our lesson.

T. Our competition will consist of different contests. For each contest your team will get some points. The team that gets more points at the end of the competition wins. Are the rules clear to you? I wish you success and good luck.

3. Questions about health

T. And our first contest is to answer the questions about health. (Слайд 5)

  1. When should people get up and go to bed? (1)
  2. How many times a day should people clean their teeth? (2)
  3. What should people do before eating? (1)
  4. What healthy food should people eat? (2)
  5. Whom should people consult to prevent an illness? (1)
  6. What should people do if they have a cold? (2)
  7. What should people do if they have a toothache? (1)
  8. What should people do if they can't sleep? (2)

4. Jumbled proverbs about health

T. The next task of our competition is called "Jumbled Proverbs". Each team will get the words for two proverbs about health. And you must put the words in a logical order. Which team will be the first? (Слайд 6)

T. Take the number of the proverb that you are going to make up.

T. So this is for you.

T. And the same procedure again. Take the sheet of paper with the number on it.

T. And this card is for you.

P. The first proverb runs "Good health is above wealth".

P. The second proverb runs "An apple a day keeps a doctor away".

P. The third proverb runs "Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise".

P. And the last proverb is "A sound mind in a sound body".

T. Our next task is to find the Russian equivalents for these English proverbs. (Слайд 8)

1. Good health is above wealth. Здоровье дороже богатства.
2. An apple a day keeps a doctor away. Кушай по яблоку в день, и доктор не понадобится.
3. Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise. Кто рано ложится и рано встает, здоровье, богатство и ум наживет.
4. A sound mind in a sound body. В здоровом теле - здоровый дух.

5. Health Code (Слайд 9)

T. Now I will give each team a leafsheet with a list of recommendations which we should follow or shouldn't follow to be healthy. Your task is to make Health Code. The first team will discuss and tell us what we should do to be healthy and the second team will tell us what we shouldn't do. I will give you two marker pens so you can tick the right points in your leafsheets.

Get up early and go to bed early
Wash your hands before eating
Smoke
Watch TV too long
Go in for sports
Clean your teeth once a day
Sleep enough
Take a cold shower
Eat too many sweets
Spend much time indoors
Eat between meals
Air the room

T. Have you finished the task? We'll start with the things which we should do. (Слайд 10)

T. And the second team will tell us what we shouldn't do. (Слайд 11)

6. Watching a video fragment

T. I hope you understand that it is important to follow these simple rules to keep fit. But sometimes people can fall ill. What should they do in this case? Let's watch a video fragment about people who have some problems with their health. Then you will tell me what they complain of and what they should do to recover. (Watching a video fragment). T. Look at the first screenshot. What does this person complain of? What does Bob advise him to do? (Слайд 13)

7. PT minute

8. Doctor's routine

T. To have a rest is also one of the rules of keeping fit.

T. But some people who don't care much about their health and don't follow some useful advice can fall ill. Who can help people if they are ill?

T. What is doctor's daily routine?

This picture will help you. (Слайд 19)

- What does he study?

- Whom does he treat?

- What does he prescribe?

- What does he write?

- Where does he work?

9. Sketches (Слайд 20)

T. I see that you know everything about doctor's daily routine. I think that when we all were small kids we played the same game called "Hospital". Some of you were doctors, others were patients. Let's return back to the past and remember what it is like to be a doctor and a patient. As at home two pairs have prepared sketches "At the Doctor's". And the other pupils will role-play a fragment from a TV show "All Star Secrets". I'll give you two minutes to concentrate.

10. A magic flower

T. So you see that nowadays ordinary people as well as celebrities want to be strong and healthy. And what about you? What do you do to keep fit? This magic flower will help you to answer my question. (Слайд 22) I will give each of you a coloured petal and you will fill it in, writing what you do to keep fit. And then you'll come up to the blackboard and fix your petal round the centre.

T. Are you ready?

T. I'm glad to hear that you take care of your health and do a lot to keep fit.

11. Crossword

T. And the last contest of our competition is the crossword. The first team will try to guess all the words across. And the second team will fill in all the words down. (Слайд 23)

12. Summing up

T. Our lesson has come to an end. It was our last lesson on the topic "Health and Body Care". I see that you know much about the main rules of keeping fit. And I hope that you will continue to take care of your health in everyday life in future.

13. Home Assignment

T. And your home assignment is to write a prescription. Imagine that you are a doctor and you have a patient who doesn't care much about his health, who often falls ill. What will you advise him? (Слайд 26)
