Ход урока

I. Оргмомент.

II. Развитие навыков аудирования с целью полного понимания содержания текста (ознакомление класса с темой урока).

Учитель: One of the most difficult problems a young person faces is deciding what to do about a career. There are individuals, of course, who from the time they are six years old “know” that they want to be doctors or pilots or fire fighters, but the majority of you do not get around to making a decision about an occupation or career until somebody or something forces you to face the problem. So, today we are going to have a talk about choosing an occupation and getting a job.

Of course, you know, that there are many important changes taking place in the workplace nowadays. Some jobs are considered to be more prestigious and important, others are not so wanted.

III Развитие навыков полилогической речи.

Учитель: And now I suggest you that you should study the list of job titles (см. приложение №1) and in groups discuss these questions.

  1. Group №1: What job areas have become more important in the last twenty years?
  2. Group №2: What jobs have become less important?
  3. Group №3: What skills and qualities are useful to get a good job nowadays?

Key words:

Job areas: agriculture, coal miming, information technology, the media, professional services, shipbuilding.

Skills: communication skills, typing, organizational ability.Qualities: co-operation, creativity, cultural awareness, flexibility, initiative, motivation.

While speaking about job areas you were absolutely right to have said that skills and personality traits are essential steps in the job hunting process and to have a talk about it I invited Mr. Malloyeen who agreed to answer your questions about his job and of those skills and abilities which are essential in his work. Mr. Malloyeen, you are welcome!

Ученик: Nice to meet you, students! Let me introduce myself. My name is George Malloyeen and I work as a manager of a Russian foreign – trade organization. I think, you have got some questions to me, haven’t you?

P1 – Mr. Malloyeen, it’s a well-known fact, that the success of any company depends largely on it’s personnel and management. How do you choose suitable people?

Mr. M. – As a rule, we hire experienced and ambitious personnel with fluent English and good organizational and computer skills.

P2 – What do you think makes a good manager?

Mr. M. – First of all high standards of professional knowledge and personal conduct.

P3 – What personal traits must a good manager have then?

Mr. M. – A good manager must be flexible, must have confidence in himself and others and keep a sense of proportion. Besides, he must have leading abilities.

P4 – What professional skills should managers have?

Mr. M. – Managers must know how to set goals and how to achieve them, how to devide work and how to coordinate the activities of individuals.

Учитель: Thank you very much for your interview, Mr. Malloyeen, but in conclusion, can you give our students some kind of advice, when choosing a profession?

Mr . Malloyeen – I think, that there are two essential steps in the job-hunting process: research and planning, research means examining your skills and finding out where you can apply them.
