I. Оргмомент.

  1. Приветствие.
  2. Тheme: Inventions that shook the world.
  3. Задачи: Today we will speak about the man-made things – the wonders of the world and inventions. And we are to do two tasks. Will you read them? (Учащиеся читают задания на карточках, на доске. Приложение №1) Приложения

II. Этап всесторонней проверки знаний.

- Let’s begin with the poem. Read a love poem and say what you think of it and why it is a love poem. (Приложение №2)

- Well, people live in a wonderful world and they have the opportunity to create and invent. And now I’d like you to speak in groups about the wonders of the world and inventions. The task for the first group is…

Task 1. Explain the meaning of the word ‘wonder’ using a spidergram.

Task 2. Do a survey to find out the reasons why people create and invent.

Task 3. Make a list of inventions and discoveries by famous people. (Приложение №3)

III. Этап подготовки учащихся к активному и сознательному усвоению нового материала.

- Well, wonderful inventions have been made in science and technology recently. They have changed the life style of millions of people. Here are some modern inventions which are used in everyday life. Try to match the gadgets and machines with their functions and say why people use them. Stand up. Come here, please. Start working. Are you ready? Name the function of your gadget. (Учащиеся сопоставляют и читают предложения. Приложение №4)

IV. Этап усвоения нового материала.

А) Новая лексика.

- And here is the list of the most impressive and beautiful man-made things which were made in the 2nd century before Christ. They were called the 7 wonders of the ancient world. This material is taken from the Internet by the students of your group. Let us read them and be ready to match them with the pictures.

- All together, please.

- Well, match the names with the pictures and say how many of them we can see today? (Приложение №5)

- Are you ready? Let’s fill in Venn Diagram. Will you help me to match the pictures with their names? What is a (b, c, d, e, f, g)? (Приложение №6)

- Well, Sasha, is it correct? Sasha is an expert in this question. He has taken this material and the pictures from the Internet. (Приложение №7)

- How many of them can we see today?

B) Работа с текстом.

- Well, in this article, the journalist describes the 7 wonders of the modern world. First, read information from article 4 to yourselves and be ready to discuss the most interesting facts. (Чтение про себя в течение 1 минуты.)

- Well, today we have a guest. Olga, I’d like you to be our guest. Our guest is the author of this article. Let us interview our guest. Your questions, please. (Беседа: класс – ученик).

- Well, and now I’d like you to look through the other articles and discuss the most interesting facts in pairs. First, read the articles to yourselves. (Учащимся даются разные статьи).

- And now discuss the most interesting facts in pairs, please. Be ready with your dialogues.

- Well, let’s listen to …

- Let’s see what you have learned about the other wonders of the modern world and fill in Venn Diagram. (Учащиеся делают сообщения и заполняют диаграмму Вена. Приложение №8)

- With the help of Venn Diagram we can see the difference between ancient and modern wonders of the world. What is it? (Учащиеся делают выводы, учитель заполняют диаграмму. Приложение №9)

V. Этап закрепления нового материала.

- One of the wonders of the world is Space Travel. And our two tasks are about it. Some students have found the answers to these questions. The sources of information are different. Listen to them and decide who is right. (Двое учащихся делают сообщения (Приложение №10) и заполняют таблицу ‘ Your sources of information’ Приложение №11).

- To answer who is right we will read the original text from the British Student’s book ‘Headway’. (Приложение №12)

- What is the title of the text?

- Pay attention to the key words which will help you to understand the text. Read the text to yourselves and and be ready to fill in the table with real facts.

- What man-made things on Earth can be seen from space? (Учащиеся называют, учитель заполняет таблицу карточками. Приложение №13).

- So, we have done the 1st task of our lesson. And what about the 2nd task? Is it true or not? And why? (Учащиеся дают ответ).

- So, we have done the 2nd task. All of you have worked very well today, especially the students who have found the material from the Internet You get excellent marks.

Аудирование. (Watching Video).

  1. And now I’d like you to name seven wonders which are typically British. Do you know them? (Демонстрация картин)
  2. - What is it? (A double-decker bus).
  3. What is it? (A parliament).
  4. What is this man by profession? (A milk man).
  5. What kind of sport is it? (Cricket).
  6. What is it? (A country garden).
  7. What can we speak about according to this map? (The weather).
  8. What is it? (Stonehenge).
  9. This is the list of the typical British wonders you have just named.
  10. Now I’d like you to read some information about Stonehenge first, then watch video and say if the sentences are correct or not.
  11. Open the Student’s books at page 46 ex 1 Stonehenge. Start reading the sentences to yourselves. Half a minute to you. (Приложение №14)
  12. Watch video and say if the sentences are correct or not. Pay attention to the words ‘probably’ and ‘may be’. (Приложение №15)
  13. Read the sentences and say if they are correct or not and why.

VI. Этап информации о домашнем задании.

I think each student dreams about visiting wonderful places of the world. And your hometask is to make up a story about one of the wonders of the world, any monument like Stonehenge, that you have visited or read about.
