Good morning! I am glad to see you! The aim of the lesson is learning and summing up the information and knowledge about traditions of celebrating birthday in England and America among children. Today we’ll have a real birthday party, like in America and England.

Ход урока

1. Let's begin with the poem “ My favorite day is my birthday”.

My favorite day is my birthday.
It is specially for me,
I send out cards to all my friends,
Inviting them for tea.

Parties such a jolly fun,
It’s always such a treat,
With funny hats and party games,
And birthday cake to eat.

I wish you a very Happy Birthday and many Happy returns of the day!

2. What is the traditional song on birthday? Ok! Let’s sing “Happy Birthday”.

3. You’ll work in small groups. You have cards with words and pictures (cake, candle, sweets, balloon, hat, place card, present). Put the pictures near the words.

4. Now look at the blackboard. You can see word combinations with missing words. Pictures will help you to guess traditions.

Send … (invitation cards)

Decorate the house with … (balloons)

Eat … (sweets)

Wear funny … (hats)

Give … (presents)

Make … (a wish)

5. I have a letter from an English boy Tom. He tells how he celebrates his birthday. You have only parts of the letter. Put the sentences in the correct order.

Dear friend!

My favorite day is my birthday! I send invitations cards to invite friends. I decorate my flat with balloons, posters and flowers. You can see the cake with candles, fruit, sweets and chocolate on the table. We sing songs, make a wish and blow the candles out. We have funny hats, play games. I like “pin the tail to the donkey”. I have many presents. It’s great fun.

Love, Tom.

6. Answer the questions.

How do they invite friends?

How do they decorate their flats?

What do they do to mark a place?

What do they wear?

What do they eat?

7. Now let’s make a wish and blow the candles out, then sing a song.

Somebody’s Birthday.
By Greg Scelsa.

Mixing up the butter to a birthday cake,
Shove it in the oven and we’ll watch it bake.
Add on the icing and the candles too;
Today is somebody’s birthday.

What’s your name?
How old are you?
Make a wish…
Happy birthday
We love you.

8. Give presents to each other. Guess the riddle about your present making a dialogue.

- We want to give you a present.

- Thank you. What is it?

- It is …

- Is it a …? Thank you.

9. You have worked very hard today. You were great. That’s why let’s have fun (the game- pin the tail to the donkey) and eat a cake.

10. Home task. Make a birthday card to your friends.

  • Write down a letter to Tom about your birthday.
