Цель: обучение устной речи и развитие навыков аудирования

Задачи:

a) воспитательные: воспитывать у учащихся чувство уважения к культуре и литературе страны изучаемого языка;

б) образовательные: провести практику речевой деятельности: монологической, диалогической, аудирования; совершенствовать навыки чтения;

в) развивающие: развитие творческой фантазии и инициативы в осуществлении иноязычной речевой деятельности, а также развитие познавательных интересов учащихся и умения сотрудничать в осуществлении совместной деятельности.

Учебник: Luke Prodromou "First Certificate Star".

Учебные пособия: презентация PowerPoint по теме "Sherlock Holmes - The Mystery of the Creeping Man"(приложение 1), видео о Шерлоке Холмсе (приложение 2).

Аппаратное обеспечение:

  • мультимедийная техника,
  • магнитофон.

Ход урока

I. Орг. момент. Good morning! I hope that you are fine today. I think you'll like our lesson as we are going to finish solving the mystery of the creeping man today. As it was written by Arthur Conan Doyle and the main character is Sherlock Holmes we are going to watch a video film about these famous people, then we are going to discuss episode four, which was your hometask, after that we will try to understand what happens in the next episode working with pictures, then we shall work with listening comprehension in which Sherlock Holmes explains the mystery to Dr Watson.

II. But before we begin I think it will be interesting to solve a puzzle ourselves. (на экране Can you solve the mystery? A man goes into the bar. He says something to the barman. He turns his back to the barman and the barman takes a gun and fires at the ceiling. Why? Учащиеся работают в группах, высказывают свои предположения. (Answer. Let me reveal the solution. The man had hiccups. One cure for hiccups is to give the person a shock, so that's why the barman fired the gun)

III. Now look at the screen as you are going to watch some video material and then try to answer my questions.

Questions:

How did Sherlock Holmes look like?

Does Sherlock Holmes have address? What is it?

Why did he investigate crime like a scientist? In what field of science can you call him an expert?

What other abilities did Sherlock Holmes have?

What did he think about every day life?

Was he married? Why?

How did Dr Watson describe Sherlock Holmes?

Where was Arthur Conan Doyle born?

What was his occupation?

Who was Holmes' enemy?

Did Conan Doyle like Sherlock Holmes stories? What did he think about them?

What did he want to write?

What happened when Conan Doyle decided to kill his main character in Switzerland?

For how long did Conan Doyle write stories about Sherlock Holmes after he brought him back to life?

Have you ever seen Russian films about Sherlock Holmes?

Do you know the names of the actors who played parts of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson?

Do you know that Igor Livanov was given a reward by the Queen of Great Britain for playing the part of Sherlock Holmes?

IV. Your hometask was to read The Mystery of the Creeping man - Episode Four. Before discussing this part let us remember the beginning of this story. Who can tell us the Story of the Creeping Man from the very beginning? (ученик рассказывает краткое содержание первых трёх частей)

Now answer the questions about the fourth part of the story.

Why was the Professor's trip unusual?

Which three adjectives describe the Professor's behaviour after his trip?

In what way do you think the Professor's behaviour might have been strange?

What kind of things did he do?

V. Now we shall pass to another task. Speaking. Open your books page71, ex. 1. Read the task. The eight pictures (4 for each student) describe the next episode of the story. So if you are to understand what happens, try to describe the pictures in detail. Describe to your partners what is happening in your pictures. Then I will ask you to tell us what you think happened in the fifth part of the story. Somebody will begin and then some of you will continue. (работа с картинками)

Зарядка: Now let's rest a little. Wink your eyes quickly, then close your eyes and count to five. Open your eyes.

Now close your eyes and then open and look far away.

Hands forward, look at your fingers, count to five and then look far away.

VI. At last we have come to the last part of this mysterious story. You are going to listen to Sherlock Holmes explaining the mystery to Watson. You are going to complete the sentences with a word or a phrase in exercise 2 of your text book. And then one of you will tell us this part of the story. Look through the task at first. (запись на аудиокассете. После прослушивания учащиеся дополняют предложения, зачитывают и затем один из них рассказывает последнюю часть). Do you remember that you made guesses as to what was wrong with Professor Presbury's dog? Do you remember your versions? Was anybody close to the real reason?

VII. Now can you make up a summary of the story of The Creeping Man from the point of view of either Bennet or the Professor? It will be your written hometask for Saturday. (учащиеся рассказывают историю от лица Беннета или Профессора Прэсбери)
