Задачи урока:

  1. Научить детей использовать лексику по теме “What are you good at?” на уроках домашнего чтения.
  2. Учить детей детальному пониманию иноязычного текста.
  3. Воспитывать у детей чувство собственного достоинства, стремление к достижению успеха.

A successful person

I. Речевая зарядка.

1. Yesterday I read this magazine. I want you to listen the word, I liked: “Счастливый человек-это успешный человек”. Will you translate these words in Russia?

(“A happy person is a successful person”)

Do you agree with these words?

2. Are you a happy boy, girl?

Were you a success at school yesterday?

Was it a successful day for you?

So, you were a success, because you achieved your aims. You worked excellently, hard. You got results.

What does the word “success” mean? (составить кластер)

Вывод учителя: Well, success is achieving aims – to be a pro. It is important for a person because it makes him/her happy. A happy person makes other people happy.

II. Введение в тему урока.

At home you read an extract from the popular book by an American writer Kate William “Second chance”.

1. Do you think if Kristin Thompson, the character of the book, is a happy person? Why?

2. Find arguments in the text and prove that Kristin was a successful girl.

Предполагаемые ответы учащихся:

  • Became famous
  • Won championships
  • Won at the contests
  • Scored most points
  • Got prizes
  • Was very popular
  • People read about her in pages
  • Played tennis greatly

3. Was she a hard working girl?

Предполагаемые ответы учащихся:

  • Practiced u lot
  • Spent every single minute of her life practicing
  • Could handle all her pressure
  • Trained a lot
  • Worked hard

Вывод учителя: Well, you see that only a hardworking person can achieve aims, get good result.

III. Работа по тексту.

How can we characterize Kristin’s life? Choose the best answer according to the story. Prove from story.

1) Выполнить Ex 3, p.18-19 (Reader).

2) Now you’ll work in groups. I’ll give you the tasks.

The 1’st group will find the proverb that is about Kristin’s working day (the motto of her life) (AB – Ex 7, p.17; Ex 5), p. 20 (Reader)

The 2’nd group will fill in Kristin’s schedule, a schedule of a pro. (Ex 5, b, p.20 (Reader).

3) We listen to you.

Вывод делают учащиеся и записывают его: If you want be a pro, you have to lead that kind of life.

Вывод учителя: So, she couldn’t change her strict schedule if she wanted to be a pro. She spent every single minute of her life practicing.

4) Her life was really under pressure. The speed of her life was high. Find the words in the texts that prove this idea (quickly, hurried, hurried).

Вывод учителя: So, if you want to be a pro, you have to lead that kind of life.

IV. Обсуждение характеристики героини.

Kristin was a shy, modest, kind girl (simple).

She could do without tennis but…

What were her wishes – she wished…

Could you live such a life?

Is your life under pressure?

V. Подведение итогов урока. Домашнее задание.

I believe you know many famous successful people who lead the kind of life, similar to Kristin’s?
