Коммуникативная задача:

  • Диалог - развивать навыки составления диалога по опорным фразам;
  • Монолог - обучать составлению краткого пересказа (summary);
  • Чтение - развивать навыки просмотрового чтения;
  • Аудирование - закрепить навыки понимания на слух незнакомого текста.

Языковая задача:

  • Лексика - познакомить и закрепить лексику по теме;
  • Грамматика - закрепить понимание и навыки употребления страдательного залога.
  • Лингва-страноведческая задача: углубить знания учащихся о столицах Канады и Австралии.

Оснащение:

учебник "Reader";

  • доклады по Сиднею и Оттаве, подготовленные учащимися;
  • кроссворды по теме, подготовленные учащимися;
  • карточки с опорными фразами для составления диалогов.

I. Оргмомент. Речевая зарядка.

Today we are having our home reading lesson and we are going to speak about two well-known cities of the English-speaking world.

  • What cities have you read at home about?
  • What country is Ottawa\Sydney situated in?
  • Is Ottawa\ Sydney the capital of the country?
  • Are Canada and Australia English-speaking countries?
  • What other English-speaking countries do you know?

As you see there are many English-speaking countries in the world, but today we shall discuss only two of them.

II. Развитие навыков чтения, устной речи, аудирования.

1. Развитие навыков просмотрового чтения.

Let us see how attentive you were while reading the texts at home.

Find the answers to my questions in the text:

  • Where is Ottawa located?
  • What historical buildings can you see in Ottawa?
  • What are the most important buildings?
  • How is Ottawa called? Why?
  • How long did Queen Juliana stay in Ottawa?
  • What are the national flag colors?

Now ask each other questions on the text about Sydney yourselves.

2. Отработка лексики.

Find the English equivalents in the text:

  • южный берег
  • федеральное правительство
  • создавать законы

  • способ благодарности
  • 2ая мировая война
  • быть оккупированным
  • принять
  • - старейший город
  • первые европейцы
  • ставить палатки

3. Закрепление грамматического материала.

Find all the verbs in the Passive Voice you can in the text

4. Обучение краткому монологическому высказыванию.

Choose only the most important sentences from the texts to make up summaries. Work in your groups. Choose a person to introduce your group. You've got two minutes to get ready.

5. Развитие навыков диалогической речи.

Now imagine that you're a citizen of Ottawa or Sydney. Your friend has come to visit you and he is in the city for the first time. What will you tell him?

Work in pairs. Try to make up dialogues discussing your friend's staying in your country. Use the words and expressions from the cards to help you. You've got 2 minutes to be ready.

  • Hi; hello; nice to meet you; glad to meet you; haven't seen you for ages;
  • How are you? - Fine, thanks.
  • What would you like to see/visit in :?
  • What are the places of interest in:?

6. Обучение аудированию. Контроль понимания.

Now let's have some listening practice. Listen to some more information about Canada and Australia that your classmates have prepared for you.

They have also prepared some True-False statements for you to listen more attentively and be ready to do the tests.

7. Закрепление новой лексики.

Now let's have some fun. Try to solve the crossword and the puzzle that your classmates have prepared for you. Work in groups.

III. Заключительный этап.

I hope you enjoyed today's lesson.

  • What cities have we spoken about?
  • What is the most interesting information you've learnt about these cities?

I'm sure you'll remember this information for a long time. At the following lessons we'll learn more about other famous cities of the English-speaking world: Washington, New York, London, Cardiff and others.
