Every country and every nation has very many ancient traditions and customs. The traditions and customs of all countries are different. In all countries of the world are there very many children's holidays about them.

What holidays do celebrate English people?

What holidays are very popular?

  1. Thanksgiving day
  2. Guy Fawkes Day.
  3. Halloween's Day

In November English celebrate Thanksgiving day.

Aina will tell us about it.

The last Thursday in November, as you know, is a holiday in America. People call this holiday Thanksgiving day. It is perhaps the most important day in the American year. People go to church , and families come together for the day. They decorate their houses with the fruit and flowers of autumn and prepare traditional American food: roast turkey, potatoes and pumpkin.

Teacher:

Now we shall hear about another English tradition. It is Guy Fawkes Day. Denis will tell about it.

Many years ago people believed in devils and witches.

An old English tradition is Guy Fawkes Day. Children go out into the streets on the 5 th of November with figures like scarecrows.

They stand in the streets and squares asking for the usual “ Penny for the Guy”. Then with the money they have collected they buy fireworks and burn the guy (the figure like a scarecrow) on their bonfire. People watch fireworks and some people go to parties in the evening.

Teacher :

Many years ago people believed in devils and witches.

Children put on masks and went to the streets to beg. It is Halloween Day. Children celebrate this day now too.

Zaira will tell us about it.

Halloween is one of the best holidays for children. American children celebrate Halloween on October 31. Children wear masks and colorful costumes. The most popular costumes are ghosts, witches and skeletons. The children walk door to door in the neighborhood and shout “ trick or treat!” Most people give them a treat– candy or fruit. They also decorate their houses and schools in the traditional Halloween colors: orange and black. Everyone tries to look scary on Halloween.

Teacher:

We have spoken about some holidays and traditions in the United States of America.

Of course there are many others holiday and traditions there.

They all are very interesting. And now let s talk about some traditions in Russia, especially about traditions of our nogaish nation. About Maslenitsa will Ainara tell us.

People in Russia have their own special traditions. One of them is “ Maslenitsa” – the holiday, which lasts for a week, to say “ Good bye” to winter. People celebrate it at the end of February or at the beginning of March. During this holiday they celebrate the end of winter and the beginning of spring. In old times people usually cooked pancakes, had fires, burnt straw scarecrows of winter, they sang songs and danced. Now during “Maslenitsa week” people always cook pancakes. They invite their friends, their nearest and dearest to see each other and eat pancakes with sour cream, fish, caviar or butter, sugar, honey.

Teacher:

Now we shall speak about a very great holiday.

Sabantoy

Bella will tell us about it.

Traditions play a more important role in the life of Nogaish people. They are proud of their traditions and carefully keep them up. One of the them is “ Sabantoy”– the holiday, which lasts one day, to say thanks to the earth for the future food. The Word “ Sabantoy” consist of two parts: “ saban” means the plough and “ toy “ means holiday.

People celebrate it in the beginning of spring. During this holiday we celebrate the kindest of the earth that it will give us food.

In old times people did their best. They made different competitions. Now during “ Sabantoy” people do their best to show themselves in the competitions as in old times “ Sabantoy” is a joyful religions holiday.

Teacher:

Another ancient nogaish tradition is “ Takta Kurshak”(wooden doll) holiday.

Ella will tell us about it.

In a very hot summer day, when it does not rain people often celebrate “ Takta Kurshak” holiday in our village. Children make scarecrows of wood like a doll and dress it like a man. They go door to door and sing a merry song holiday. Hostess must water children, like a rain and give them sweets. In the evening they go to the river, enjoy eating the sweets and throw wooden doll into the river. As to the custom, the next day will bring us the rain, because nogaish children asked the God for the rain and they believe that custom.

Teacher:

Well, you see holidays are very interesting and wonderful.

There are many countries in the world. And all countries have very many traditions and customs. We can say:

“ So many countries,
So many customs.”
