The song KATYUSA

Blossom grace the apple trees and pear trees
Mist upon the rivers floated by
Down Katyusha came to gather berries
On the cliff top rising steppe and high

There she walked and there she started singing
Of the dove-grey eagle of the steppe
Of the one that she had her heart singing
Of the one whose letters she had kept

May the boy his village girl remember
May he hear her love of tenderness?
May he guard his native land forever?
And Katyusha guard her love no less

Blossom grace the apple trees and pear trees
Mist upon the rivers floated by
Down Katyusha came to gather berries
On the cliff top rising steppe and high

Thank you very much for your project, it was very interesting. You gave us a lot of information about Russia and Russians.

RUSSIANS are supposed to think of themselves as having not just one motherland but two – Russia and some little places of it where they were born. The next page of our guide – book is the page “Welcome to Tatarstan”.

To understand the nature of a nation you should know its festivals, holidays and celebrations. Tatarstan is a multicultural republic. There are many various festivals and holidays. Many of them are very popular, common and loved by all.

Sabantuy is the most popular festival in Tatarstan. It is a celebration of the plough. This holiday takes place at the beginning of summer, after the first haymaking (сенокос). During this festival there are a lot of spectacular competitions. The most exciting are the horse – racing.

Another popular competition is the national wrestling. At the end they choose a winner. He is usually given a good prize.

There are also a lot of funny competitions and sport games, for example, egg – races, running – in – sacks races. Climbing up a high pole is rather difficult, but very funny. The prize is a big cock, sitting on the top. In the villages young women usually make presents for the winners. Everyone tries to show her or his skills.

MASLENNITSA is a traditional Russian holiday. It takes place at the end of winter. On this day people fried a lot of pancakes – hot and round like the sun and put much butter on them. The holiday lasted a week. During the holiday people played snowballs, made snow castles and rode a sledge. They visited each other and celebrate this holiday together.

Nowadays it is one of the most favourite holidays and it is very popular with people of all nationalities.

NAURUS means the New Year Day. It is a very old festival.
The festival takes place on the 21st of March. On this day the day time is as long as night. Days become longer and nights become shorter. This holiday symbolizes the end of darkness and the victory of the light over the evil. It is a bright and unforgettable festival. People choose the most beautiful girl. She is called “Naurus – bikeh”. She drives throughout the town in a coach, decorated with flowers, bright ribbons and bells. Everywhere people greet her cheerfully. People sing songs and dance.

National Tatar dance

Tatarstan is famous not only for its holidays, festivals and celebrations but for its national cuisine too. It is impossible to get acquainted with people well if you don’t know national dishes they cook.

Mother: You are right, son, I am cooking our traditional dish – chack – chack. Will you help me?
Rashid: With great pleasure! What shall I do?
Mother: Take a mixer, it is in the cupboard.
Rashid: Shall I…?
Mother: Oh, my darling, have you ever seen what I begin with?
Rashid: I am afraid, I haven’t.
Mother: Start with sifting (просеивать) the flour. Take six eggs. I hope you know, where they are.
Rashid: I hope, I don’t have to go to the shop!
Mother: Of course, not. Beat them carefully, add sifted flour, salt and don’t forget the baking powder.
Rashid: For what?
Mother: Oh, my dear! Are you helping me?
Rashid: Yes, mum. Don’t worry! I will do what you want. What shall I do next?
Mother: Nothing! Mix the dough (тесто).
Rashid: It is not easy! What next?
Mother: Made a rope, cut into pieces and fry in melted hot butter.
Rashid: Everything is ready. May I eat chack – chack?
Mother: No. Put everything on a flat plate. Make a pyramid.
Rashid: Mum, when shall we eat it?
Mother: Well, let’s wait for aunt Rosy…

Remember, Tatarstan, you are the great
Not in the fields of battles past
But in the green fields full of corn and wheat,
And forests, gardens free of dust.
I love you deeply, dear land,
Your hills and rivers, sand on strand (на берегу),
Your songs and dances, lakes and ponds,
Your animals (животных) and fish, and birds, of course.
Your sunrise is a splendid sight,
Which gives me always such delight?

The 3d page of our guide – book is about our home town Leninogorsk. We don’t want to live anywhere else but in Leninogorsk. We were born here and we are not going to leave it. Leninogorsk is a charming place. What can we say about our town to foreigners?

“Welcome to Leninogorsk”

Leninogorsk was founded on August 18, 1995. It is one of the industrial and cultural centres of the republic Tatarstan. It lies in the south – east of the republic. It is a town of oil industry and it is famous for its Romashkinskoye oil field. Its population is about 70 000 people. 20 nationalities – Russians, Tatars, Ukrainians, Mordovinians, Belorussians and others live in peace and friendship here. There are 70 offices and organizations of oil industry, transport, communication, building and food industries in it. There are many modern and beautiful buildings in Leninogorsk. Visitors can climb the Rotonda and admire the beautiful view of our town from there. If you want to escape from the stress of the city, Leninogorsk is the place for you. Leninogorsk is the town of youth. Town administration pays much attention to young generation. There are two departments of Yelabuga State Teaching Training College and Kazan Technical University, 14 secondary schools, art and music schools, where thousands of children are taught and brought up. Museums, The Exhibition Hall, the Palace of Culture open their doors to all who want to visit them. Leninogorsk district is the Motherland of 12 heroes of the Soviet Union, famous scientists and cultural workers. Sport is very popular in our town. Two covered swimming pools, ski – jumping boards, a sport complex, different sport clubs work all over the year round. Leninogorsk is known to be one of the greenest towns in Tatarstan and in Russia. We are very proud of our town and like it very much.

I devote this poem to your beauty, my town,
I will ever admire it and will never forget.
Your streets and squares, your parks and monuments.
You are the part of the universe,
You are the part of my heart.

Our Russia consists not only of Russia, Tatarstan and Leninogorsk but of school №7 too.
The last page of our guide – book is about our second home.
“Welcome to school №7”

LIVE AND LEARN

As you become older you realize that there are several essential things and places you always long to come back to. They are your birthplace, your home and the school you went to.

We are the pupils of the tenth form. We study at school №7. We would like to tell you about our school life. We like studying and our favourite proverb is “LIVE and LEARN”.

Our school is not new but modern. It is very cosy and it is really home for everyone, not only who studies there but for all the stuff.

Our school is the school of our dream. We study a lot of interesting subjects, they are: Russian, Tatar and English languages, Russian and Tatar Literature, Mathematics, Physics and Science, Biology and Geography, Music and Sport and many others. There is a large computer classroom in our school. Every pupil has a chance to use it at any time. Our school library is large and clean. Two librarians help pupils to find books they need. Our dining – room is the best place in our school. The food here is always hot and tasty. We are very thankful our cookers for it.

There is a big nice assemble hall. A lot of meetings, concerts, festivals and seminars are held there.

There is a good tradition in our school. Every year the school leavers come here to meet their teachers and classmates. Such meetings are very touching and interesting. They take place every first Saturday of February.

Our school has two gymnasiums and a sport ground. Many pupils are fond of sport and they have a good opportunity to go in for different kind of sport. Sport makes our pupils healthy, it keeps them fit, more organized and better disciplined.

Pupils in our school are very organized, talented, active and artistic. They take part in some school activities with pleasure.

After classes we usually don’t go home right away. We have some extracurricular activities. Our social and cultural life is well – organized. For example, we have art club, dancing club, a chess club. We organize concerts, parties when we celebrate our holidays. Pupils of our school sing songs and dance modern and folk dances and perform some plays there.

When we leave school, it is my teachers and schoolmates who will be always with us.

We can not help liking our teachers; they are kind, knowledgeable and skilled. They give all their knowledge and their love to the pupils. We respect them and very thankful for what they have done for us. I will never forget my school and my classmates. To our thinking, it is our childhood, and it is the happiest period in our life. Our first friends, our first love, our first achievements and disappointments are all connected with our school life.

The song

Our lesson is over. Thank you very much for all your projects. Your projects were excellent, so your marks for the lesson are excellent too. At your next projects I think you will be as active and creative as you have been at the lesson today.
