Открытое внеклассное мероприятие “Maypole Day in Great Britain” было проведено в рамках районного праздника «Британский Калейдоскоп» в феврале 2011 года для и при непосредственном участии учащихся 7 класса, которые занимаются по УМК Афанасьевой О.В. «Новый курс английского языка для общеобразовательных школ».

Задачи:
- активизировать страноведческий материал по теме: «Праздники»;
- систематизировать знания учащихся о том, как и когда празднуются британские праздники;
- воспитывать чувства уважения и доброжелательности к стране изучаемого языка и её народу;
- развивать и поддерживать устойчивый интерес к английскому языку, речевую культуру и культуру общения друг с другом.
Оформление: майское дерево, скамейка, кресло для королевы, букеты цветов, колокольчик ,корона , презентация и аудиокассета.
Ход мероприятия
Teacher: Good afternoon, dear children and guests! Today we have an unusual day. We are having a great party ”Kaleidoscope of British Holidays”. I hope you will have a wonderful time. Let us learn, play, sing and dance together!
Teacher: There are a lot of public holidays in Great Britain, but the most interesting holiday on the British Isles is Maypole day.
(Дети в нарядных костюмах рассказывают о весеннем празднике. Весеннее дерево на сцене, его держит ученик. Девочки начинают рассказывать о празднике, остальные по одному выбегают и берут в руку ленточку от цветущего дерева).

Pupil 1: Maypole Day or the first of May is a spring festival.
It is celebrated with flowers, dancing, and games on the village green.
A Maypole is a tall tree with flowers and ribbons.
Pupil 2: The girls put on their best summer dresses with flowers in their hair and wait for the crowning of the May Queen.
Pupil 3: The most beautiful girl is May Queen.
Pupil 4: It is a popular tradition connected with a May Tree.
In ancient times such holidays were held on the night of the first of May.
Pupil 5: A May Tree was established in the evening.
Then all men and women, girls and boys had a good time dancing around the tree. Usually they left the May Tree for the whole year.
Pupil 6: In some places there is a tradition according to which the mother of the girl gives a cake to the guy, the father gives the beer box ,and the girl kisses him.

Начинается коронация королевы.
(Королева садится в кресло, украшенное цветами, а все ученики дарят ей цветы и поднимают её в кресле).
