VII. Практика чтения про себя и контроль понимания прочитанного

Teacher: Read the text “ My Family's Food”.

(Учащимся раздаются карточки с заданиями к тексту “ My Family's Food”.)

MY FAMILY'S FOOD

Everybody knows that food gives us energy and strength. All the members of my family try to eat healthy and nutritious food. But nevertheless “ Tastes differ”.

People in different countries have different food preferences as well. It may depend on the climate in the country, its culture, traditions and many other factors.

As for us, we are typical Russian family. There are four of us in the family: father, mother, my grandmother and I (Alice). So, for breakfast we prefer traditional Russian food. Breakfast is important because it gives us energy for the whole day.

Our usual breakfast can include cereals with milk, especially cornflakes, omelette, boiled or fried eggs. My Granny is good at cooking. Usually she gets up early and cooks traditional Russian dishes, such as syrniki, bliny (pancakes) and blinchiki (small pancakes) with stuffing. For example, blinchiki with cottage cheese, butter or jam. Sometimes my Mum eats soup for breakfast as she has only kefir or yoghurt and a glass of juice during her lunch-break at work. As for me, soup, especially chicken one, and a glass of mineral water is enough for my lunch. My father's lunch is rather nutritious. It consists of soup, meat or fish, salads and a cup of tea with lemon. My Dad goes in for sports (he is a good footballer), so he needs calorie-rich food.

Our main meal of the day is dinner when all the members of the family gather together. We talk and discuss the latest events at the table. This meal starts with salads. Then follows meat, fish or chops with potatoes or vegetables. We often eat milk products in the evening. To my mind they are tasty and good for health. Fruits are also good for our health and we eat a lot of them every day.

In conclusion, I'd like to advise you to take care of your health and avoid overweight.
