Teacher: Good morning, boy and girls! I am glad to see you. Today we have an unusual lesson. You see, we are in the computer’s room, not in the English one. Secondly, we have guests at our lesson. I’m sure we all wish you good luck at discussing the point of our lesson.

Dear friends! Look at the blackboard! Here is the theme of our lesson “It’s the thing you need” from the unit “Inventions That Shook the World”. Here is the motto of the lesson: “Man is still the most extraordinary thing of all”. Do you think we are going to talk about different inventions only? Of course not, about the man and his inventions.

Just imagine the amount of inventions of the last century. Some people think that the most of inventions are very important and useful; some others think that technology will ruin the society and they are useless.

Work in a group of 4 persons. Choose a group leader. The first group will write and name 3 things that you can hardly live without. The second group will write and name 3 things that you can sacrifice without too much reluctance. The third group will choose the most useful modern inventions and say why people use them.

T: There are some things we couldn’t live without. They are…

T: Some other things we consider useless

T: What things most of you couldn’t live without?

T: I agree with you children. I think we can do without… but I see that the most important thing for you is the computer. “It’s the thing you need”. 50 years ago people hadn’t ever heard of computers, and today we cannot imagine our life without them. Computer revolution is changing our life and our language, too. It has made up new words or has given new meaning to old ones.
