(Учащиеся беседуют с семьей Баркеров на фоне картины с изображением дома и сада).

Teacher: Good morning, Mr and Mrs Barker. Thank you for agreeing to tell us about your hobby, gardening.

Mr Barker: Good morning, boys and girls. I’m glad to see you and show you around my garden.I think you know that gardening is a traditional English hobby. Some people have big gardens. They are very beautiful and famous all over the world. Many of these gardens are open to the public. But, of course, only rich people can have such gardens.

As for me, I have a small garden, but I grow different kinds of flowers in it. Here you can see roses: white, red, pink and yellow. Here I have camomiles and poppies. On this flowerbed I grow bluebells and daisies. There you can see lilies, they are my favourites. But my wife likes pansies and forget – me – nots most of all. They are near the house, so she can admire them all the time.

Teacher: Mr Barker, your garden is wonderful. Everything is very beautiful.

Mr Barker: Thank you very much, you are very nice. Now I’d like to ask your pupils about Russian people and their hobbies. Do Russian people enjoy gardening?

Примерные вопросы и ответы учащихся

P1: Yes, they do. Many Russian people have their own gardens.

P3: My grandmother grows potatoes, tomatoes, carrots and cabbage.

P4: My grandparents live on the Volga. They grow apricots, cherries and pears.

P5: My grandparents live in the Crimea, it’s very warm there, so they grow peaches, grapes and strawberries.

P6: My grandparents live near Moscow. They don’t grow exotic fruit, they grow apples and plums.

Мr Barker: Oh, unlike Great Britain Russia is a large country, and you can grow a lot of kinds of fruit and vegetables. Well, do Russian people grow flowers in their gardens?

P7: Yes, they do. My mother likes flowers very much. In summer we always have asters, roses, bluebells and petunias in our garden. They are very beautiful.

P8: My granny prefers pansies, lilies and camomiles. I help her to look after the flowers.

Mr Barker: And now my last question. What are your favourite flowers?

P1: I like roses.

P2: My favourite flowers are asters.

P3: I adore camomiles.

Mr Barker: I hope I’ll go some day to Russia and see everything with my own eyes.

Teacher: Mr Barker, thank you for your interesting story. Now my pupils would like to ask Mrs Barker a few questions about English homes.

P4: Mrs Barker, do English people like to live in houses or in flats?

Mrs Barker: Of course, we prefer to live in houses. It’s better to live in your own house. Besides, you can have a garden there.

P5: How many floors are there in the traditional English house?

Mrs Barker: There are usually two floors; the ground floor and the first floor. We have two rooms in our house too.

P6: What rooms do you have upstairs and downstairs?

Mrs Barker: Like other people we have a bathroom and bedrooms upstairs and a kitchen, a sitting – room and a hall downstairs.

P7: Is your house warm or cold?

Mrs Barker: We have a fire in the sitting – room, so we spend evenings near the fire. It’s warm there. But the bedrooms are rather cold.

Teacher: Thank you, Mr and Mrs Barker. Now we want to present you with a book about flowers and a bowl. Such nice bowls are made in a place called Gzhel. It’s near Moscow.

3. As for me, I like the Tower of London. It’s a very old building. The Tower of London is nine hundred years old. In the past it was a royal palace and a prison. The walls of the Tower are five metres thick. Twelve black ravens live in the Tower. Londoners believe that London can be rich and great until the ravens live there.
